Granny Squares

Of fall colors
Some time before she died-- in July 1976-- my grandmother crocheted for me a coat-length, hooded sweater of granny squares. I've worn it every Fall for over 37 years. It's a rare year that it receives no comments. Just last week, at the High School Football game,

the lady sitting to Mr. Big Food's right, asked if she could take a look at it. She thought she might make one for her mother-- who'd just moved in and would love it as a Christmas gift.

I'll tote it along with me tomorrow morning and it will keep me warm in the climate-controlled-for-polar bears class room.  (Miss M is so pissed off about climate-control that she took a blanket with her this morning!)

It's a subtle thing-- walking around in cool retro hip Granny Squares each Fall.

But something's gotta give. And who knows? It might just be Granny Squares that tips the tide.

  1. What a great tribute to your grandmother! Not everyone appreciates granny squares. I love to make them.
