We planned on 50

including this one.
By my head count, there were 47 1/2. (Olive eats a lot but she just doesn't put it down the way the guys do.)

I made a couple of things this morning.

Brandied fruit

Beer potato salad
By about 3pm were ready.

Daughter C had made menus.

We weren't quite sure about the weather, so the guys moved the grills up to the porch.
Meanwhile, we put on the finishing touches.

And iced down the beverages.

People started showing up.

And then my camera ran out of battery.

BUT! Everybody & his brother were taking photos. So if you just go look on the WorldWideWeb, I'm sure you will find a photo of yourself (haha) at the Farm.

Unless, of course, you were not here.

Belated Welcome!

If I had to whittle my list of favorite people of all time down to five, I'd be happy to report that, tonight, they are all under one roof.

So to speak. It's a stretch to call what some of them are sitting under a "roof." It's lacking in structural integrity.

Dang. It's a metaphysical roof.

 Welcome Kat & Tony!

Keep Talking... | Dinner Party Conversations

Is this true?

* Kat tried to pull a 2-fer, arguing that her two submitted quotes went hand-in-hand. They did. But she had to choose one. And she did. But because the Rules of the Game are sympathetic to larger issues, here's what Patrick Stewart didn't get  to say:

You know what's really funny?

Editing funny video of funny dogs barking while funny dogs are in the room.
They bark at themselves barking. It's metabarking!

Funny stuff.

I should sew some valances for the windows in this room. I like naked windows, but I think the room would feel cozier to guests if there were valances. Unlike sheers-- which would be my first option-- valances wouldn't obstruct the dogs' view.

A Possible World

We and a regional financial institution own a nice house and piece of land in rural Mississippi. It's not all that big, but it's Big enough for us.

Before we saw The Farm, we looked at several houses and pieces of property. One of the factors in the decision over which piece of land to buy that figured big in my mind was size. A piece of land would need to be Big enough to split three ways, with all three ending up with a sizable property. It would need to be Big enough to accommodate us all at the same time-- and Big enough for privacy.

Farther Along Farm satisfies a lot of conditions.

This past week was the "Possible World Week" during which we (almost) all co-existed at Farther Along Farm. I think it went well. Rocky learned a lot. He can differentiate males from females and he has learned how important that bit of knowledge is to his maleness.

Mr. Big Food was getting restless near the end. He loves them all. He loves that they cook & bake. But he wanted his kitchen back.  He loves them!

Dry run. Need more kitchens.

I neglected blogging while they were all here.

Mr. Kant arrives tomorrow.

I have a "metaphysics" label. Should I have a "Kant" label? That just don't seem right.

Chew on this

I love the photo at the article site. This is the first thing I've stumbled upon from the Food Renegade site and it looks interesting. I'm a little put off by the repeated use of the word, "sustainable," though. But I'll keep my brain open.

hat tip: Instapundit

My take on the question? "Rights" talk is metaphysical talk. I don't do metaphysics. So I get around the whole issue of rights by just saying to folks who assert that I do or do not have a "right" to do X:
I don't want to be told what to do/eat/say/think/feel. etc. Get out of my garden and kitchen, and stay away from my bookshleves. And while you're at it, get out of my life.
(Don't think I'm an anarchist, though. There are rules.)

Rule aught.

There's a BIG difference between telling what to ..., and discussing the merits of doing  ... . The difference is choice. That's what the linked article is about.
