A Spirited Discussion / UPDATED

The scene  across the street from where I pick Mr. Big Food up from his car pool to & from Starkvegas.

There is a storm looming in the distance.
As we-- that would be we well behaved humans, Rocky the instigator, and Missy the dog with energy to spare-- retired to the Den, Mr. Big Food and I had a spirited discussion about Life in These United States, ca. August 1, 2012.

UPDATE: Just to be clear... . There's no storm looming for Mr. Big Food and me!

  1. I had a baby who I left in the pasture with a halter like that. She hooked it on a fenceline and hanged herself.

    There are better foal halters...!

  2. Ohhh. Why does a foal need a halter in a pasture to begin with?

  3. The better to catch them with...!

Actually, that's a good question for horse owners to consider. The idea is that it's easier to work with them, but catching them and putting a halter on is a problem in itself until they've had some work done. My plan was to use a different type halter on them and leave it on in order to get a "handle" on them, then, while you already have that "handle", practice putting another halter on them. Eventually they get used to having a halter put on and the "all the time" halter isn't necessary - about the time they out grow them! Foals are unpredictable, and can duck under mom whenever they're uncomfortable with what you're trying to work with them. Makes them tough to condition to new stuff.
