So...question. Suppose honest and goodness voting tells us that a majority of voters really want a socialist/marxist country? Do we - the minority - have a right to force our opinions upon the majority? or do we just shut up and deal with a society we never bargained for? (I'm assuming honest elections, which, I realise, is a problem right off the bat)
I've mentally debated this - because to a certain extent, I think that if that's what the majority wants, it's a valid choice - even if I don't like it. On the other hand, we have a constitution - which theoretically, at least - would bar this choice. Do we have the right to enforce this even at the cost of umpteen lives? Do the 3 Percenters, in other words, have the right to force the 97% into a revolution?
The big problem is that the whole world has been "taken" - no unpopulated places left to migrate to. Guess our children or our grandchildren will have to move off planet, if that's the majority choice.
Takes on a whole different meaning after today.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.

Reply coming. (It's too early for a G&T and this requires a G&T.)
DeleteOh. Which reminds me. A dry county is the perfect example of democracy run amok.
It is troubling to me that my argument appeals to Natural Rights, and I have no coherent argument for Natural Rights.
