Recipe: Macaroni and Cheese Casserole

Classic Sunday Supper. Destined to become a Big Food Favorite.

MACARONI AND CHEESE CASSEROLE

Serves 4-6

8 oz package elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
½ stick butter
¼ C flour
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
2 C milk
8 oz grated cheddar cheese
½ C buttered bread crumbs

Preheat oven to 375o. Melt butter in a saucepan, remove from heat, stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth, and stir in milk gradually. Bring to a boil, stirring, then reduce heat and simmer about 1 minute. Remove from heat, and stir in 1 ½ C cheese and drained macaroni. Pour mixture into a lightly greased 2 quart casserole, sprinkle remaining cheese and buttered bread crumbs on top, and bake 15-25 minutes or until cheese on top is golden brown.
